SUMMARY:Industry decarbonisation in times of energy crises
DESCRIPTION:11:30 - 13:00 Uhr // As part of the DIW-OECD Industrial Strategy Dialogues, this event will explore how strategic international partnerships can accelerate the decarbonisation of industry. Industry is the cornerstone of modern economies but also one of the most emissions intensive sectors - an issue made even more urgent by the current energy crisis, which has exposed the vulnerability of carbon intensive production to volatile fossil fuel markets and underscored the need to scale up clean energy solutions. Coordinated global action is therefore essential.  The event will take the example of the steel sector to explore how such coordinated action to decarbonise industry can be realized. The OECD will present new work on the global steel landscape, discussing the importance of climate and trade policy, the diversity of transition pathways and the need for international cooperation and partnership. The discussion will also highlight initiatives such as the Climate Club as an example of how high level international partnerships—grounded in robust analytical work and shared data—can help align policies, strengthen cooperation and support the transformation, and resilience, of industrial sectors. The panel will discuss how partnerships between governments, industry and international organisations can help build global markets for low-carbon technologies and advance industrial decarbonisation.
