SUMMARY:Labour Supply Effects of Commuting Costs in Germany
DESCRIPTION:6.15-7.30 pm  // Abstract: During the mid to late 2000's, commuter tax break policy in Germany witnessed a period of turbulence with reforms restricting eligibility based on distance to the work place put in place in 2007, only to be reversed two years later thanks to a ruling by the German federal constitutional court.  In this study I exploit the exogenous variation in commuting costs brought about by these policy changes to estimate the effect of commuting costs on measures of daily and weekly labour supply using regression discontinuity and difference in difference methods.
