Dr. Sonali Chowdhry

Dr. Sonali Chowdhry is Research Associate in the Department Firms and Markets. She is an economist specialising in international trade and firm heterogeneity. Her research examines the reallocation effects of trade policy shocks using detailed firm-level customs databases. Alongside academic research, Sonali has contributed to numerous policy studies on mega-regional trade agreements and served as an external consultant for institutions such as the European Parliament, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and the Embassy of India in Brussels. Her research on the US-China tariff war, sanctions policy and the COVID-19 trade collapse has received coverage in leading news outlets including Bloomberg, Reuters, Der Spiegel and Die Zeit. Sonali pursued her PhD in Economics as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Prior to her PhD, she read for the MPhil in Economics from University of Oxford as a recipient of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship from India.
