Martin is a research associate and postdoctoral researcher in the Department Energy, Transportation, Environment. His work addresses the decarbonization of the energy system, focusing on flexibility options in the electricity sector, sector coupling, hydrogen, and the challenges of integrating variable renewable energy sources, especially during extended periods of low wind and solar generation ("Dunkelflauten"). He obtained his PhD in energy system analysis at Technical University Berlin. Previously, he studied economics and business administration in Dresden and at Teesside University (UK). Before joining DIW Berlin, Martin worked as a research associate in the Workgroup for Economic and Infrastructure Policy at Technical University Berlin and as a policy advisor for energy transition cooperation in Southeast Europe at Germanwatch.
